Dr James Del Rosso highlights ISDIN’s innovative Eryfotona Actinica and Eryfotona Actinica Ageless sunscreens, which combine 100% mineral UV protection with photolyases and antioxidants for comprehensive skin protection. 

In the inaugural Formulation Focus, James Q. Del Rosso, DO reviews two of ISDIN’s photoprotection products: Eryfotona Actinica and Eryfotona Actinica Ageless. These lightweight emulsions combine 100% mineral sunscreen (11% zinc oxide) with DNA repair enzymes (photolyases) and antioxidants for a three-pronged approach to photoprotection. 

Photolyases, derived from plankton, target cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers—mutagenic DNA damage caused by UV exposure that human skin struggles to repair naturally. By incorporating these enzymes, the formulations aim not only to help prevent sunburn and structural skin damage but also to help repair existing sun damage, which have been known to lead to actinic keratosis or skin cancers like squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. 

Eryfotona Actinica is formulated for everyday use with a lightweight, fast-absorbing texture suitable for use under makeup. Eryfotona Actinica Ageless builds on this base with additional ingredients, including peptide Q10 (which stimulates endogenous coenzyme Q10) and a peptide complex—to target signs of skin aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles. Both products include vitamin E for antioxidant protection against visible light and environmental stressors.
